16/05/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 16 May the European Union announced the allocation of €25 million in humanitarian aid to Palestinians in the West Bank, East Jerusalem and Gaza. More than 2 million Palestinians in the occupied territories and Gaza Strip are in need of humanitarian assistance. Last year, 256 Palestinians lost their lives in less than 2 weeks, including 11 children who were participating in an EU-funded trauma care programme. Soaring food and energy prices make the situation even worse. Some 1.79 million people are food insecure. “The EU stands in solidarity with the Palestinian people. We insist on full respect for international humanitarian law and condemn the continued expulsion of civilians and the demolition of their homes, schools and basic infrastructure. This has to stop”, comments EU Commissioner Janez Lenarčič in a statement. (AN)
