16/05/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Sunday 15 May European Commission Vice-President for Promoting our European Way of Life, Margarítis Schinás, welcomed Swiss citizens voting for the new missions of the Frontex agency. By more than 71%, Swiss voters approved new financial and human resources for the agency, which should, among other things, have a contingent of 10,000 agents by 2027. “The Swiss vote reaffirms the importance the Swiss place on both the role of Frontex and the benefits of free movement and border management. Schengen remains our crown jewel, it has come out of the pandemic more resilient and is helping us welcome people from Ukraine”, the Vice-President reacted on Twitter. A rejection of these new prerogatives would have had negative consequences for the country’s continued participation in the border-free area. (SP)
