The European Commission is providing €1.5 million to a United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) project to provide sexual and reproductive health services to women and girls in Ukraine, the EU institution announced on Friday 13 May
The funds will support essential supplies and equipment, including emergency kits for pregnant women, and help set up two mobile care units for emergency obstetric and neonatal care.
On the same day, the European Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Lenarčič, and his colleague for Health, Stella Kyriakides, met with the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative on Sexual Violence in Conflict, Pramila Patten, to discuss how to support victims of sexual and gender-based violence.
In a statement, Mr Lenarčič said the new funding will provide “immediate humanitarian response for women and girls in Ukraine, including survivors of sexual and gender-based violence, with access to sexual and reproductive health response services”. (Original version in French by Aminata Niang)
