The European Commission has launched a call for contributions, open until 23 May, to evaluate the work of the European Environment Agency (EEA) and its European Environment Information and Observation Network (EIONET), which is tasked with providing the EU and its Member States with objective, reliable and comparable environmental information and technical and scientific support.
The evaluation covers the period 2017-2021 and therefore covers two multi-annual programmes: the Agency’s 2014-2020 work programme and the new EEA-EIONET 2021-2030 strategy.
Its findings will be used to assess the relevance of the Agency’s mandate in the light of new environmental and climate policy demands and, if necessary, to prepare a possible revision of Regulation (EC) No 401/2009 which established the EEA.
The European Commission’s initiative is scheduled for adoption in the second quarter of 2023.
Contributions can be submitted online on the Commission’s website until midnight Brussels time on 23 May. To participate in this public consultation: https://aeur.eu/f/1dk (Original version in French by Aminata Niang)
