European Commission launches new think tank to implement New European Bauhaus

On Thursday 7 April, the European Commission announced the setting up of a new think tank, the ‘NEB LAB’, intended to strengthen the involvement of business, public actors, and in particular local and regional authorities in the implementation of the New European Bauhaus.

This is why the institution has launched an appeal to the “Friends of the New European Bauhaus(see EUROPE 12791/19), a community of not-for-profit organisations forming a network to implement the New European Bauhaus that was presented last September.

The think tank will work on three areas. The first will aim to develop a “labelling strategy” to create an assessment framework and criteria to ensure that projects comply with the spirit of the European initiative. A second project will look to map regulatory frameworks from local to European level so that obstacles to the development of innovative projects can be removed.

Finally, the think tank will work on a third area that is dedicated to “innovative” financing. In its press release, the institution said that the aim is to develop crowdfunding projects in conjunction with public funding, and joint funding projects with the philanthropy sector.

Work to promote the transformation of learning spaces linked to the initiative is already underway. Several calls to support “citizens, cities and agglomerations” to integrate the spirit of the New European Bauhaus into their projects are also being set up.
