11/04/2022 (Agence Europe) – The spokesman of the European External Action Service welcomed, on Sunday 10 April, the agreement reached on 7 April between the Lebanese authorities and the International Monetary Fund on a comprehensive economic reform programme. “This program will support the authorities’ strategy to restore growth and financial sustainability, strengthen governance and transparency, and increase social and reconstruction spending”, the spokesman said. He called on the authorities to complete the various measures required before the IMF board review. “This is also one of the conditions for the EU’s Macro-Financial Assistance to be considered”, he said. According to the spokesman, it is urgent that Lebanon tackles reforms in areas such as the monetary and exchange rate systems, energy, finance, anti-corruption, and public procurement. (CG)
