11/04/2022 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission’s Executive Vice-President for the Green Deal, Frans Timmermans, expressed the European Union’s determination to work with Egypt to achieve an ambitious outcome at the 27th session of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP27), following a meeting in Cairo with Sameh Shoukry, Egyptian Foreign Minister and COP27 President-designate, on Sunday 10 April. In a joint statement, the two men assured that the implementation of the commitments and announcements made last year at COP26 in Glasgow would be the priority (see EUROPE 12832/14). They also agreed to work together to encourage the mobilisation of climate finance for developing countries, in particular African countries, and to develop a Mediterranean Green Hydrogen Partnership. COP27 is scheduled to take place from 7 to 18 November in Sharm El-Sheikh. See the joint statement: https://aeur.eu/f/17j (DG)
