11/04/2022 (Agence Europe) – Some 150 companies sent a joint letter to the European Commission on Monday 11 April asking it to prepare a European strategy on geothermal energy and sustainable raw material extraction by 2023. “The purpose of the strategy is to unlock geothermal energy’s potential as a major renewable energy source across the internal market and neighbouring countries”, the letter says. For the signatory organisations, this strategy should notably aim at identifying the obstacles to the development of geothermal energy, proposing measures to accelerate its deployment (especially with regard to heating and cooling infrastructures), crowding-in financing, de-risking of private investments, while maintaining high environmental standards.
