06/04/2022 (Agence Europe) – The 10 most polluting airlines in Europe have received €683 million in free allowances in 2021, the NGO T&E estimated on Wednesday 6 April. Based on analysed data, T&E reports that Ryanair, Lufthansa and Air France received €191 million, €108 million and €79 million respectively in “free pollution permits”. “These free allowances are a legacy that has no place given the climate crisis we are facing. The EU needs to put an end to the get-out-of-jail free cards for aviation”, said T&E’s Director of Aviation, Andrew Murphy. “Although the industry has not fully recuperated from the pandemic slump, airline emissions figures are still way above where they should be”, he added.
