09/03/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 9 March, the European Commission launched a website for stakeholders and refugees from Ukraine to explain their rights in the EU under the EU Temporary Protection Directive. These rights include such things as access to social benefits, the right to work and the right to travel in the EU. The site also explains possible alternatives to the directive for people who are not covered by it, such as the right to apply for asylum. The European Commission also draws attention to the European rule – namely the principle of the Dublin Regulation – regarding the country of first entry. The site also links to Member States’ ministries, who can provide further details on national coverage arrangements that are in place. More than 2.2 million people have now fled Ukraine to date.
