04/03/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 3 March, the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union transmitted revised draft conclusions analysing the European Commission’s communication on sustainable carbon cycles in agriculture and forestry. The draft conclusions will be discussed on Monday 7 March by the Council’s experts, meeting in the Special Committee on Agriculture (SCA). EU agriculture ministers are expected to adopt the text during their next meeting on 21 March (see EUROPE 12889/16). In particular, the draft emphasises that this future certification framework should not cause an disproportionate administrative burden, and “should not result in sanctions in case of extreme weather events that may lead to reduced carbon sequestration”.
