11/02/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Monday, 14 February, the Special Committee on Agriculture (SCA) will discuss the EU Council’s draft conclusions on sustainable carbon cycles in the agriculture and forestry sectors (see EUROPE 12886/3). The Agriculture Council is expected to adopt such conclusions in March. The draft text supports the approach of “conceiving carbon farming as a new economic and ecological model, capable of providing an additional source of income for land managers, and encourages its deployment on European territory” and emphasises that the remuneration offered must provide sufficient incentive. The project supports the future proposal on a robust certification framework based on validated scientific methods and diagnostic instruments at the European level for monitoring and verifying the volumes of carbon stored and emitted.
