04/03/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 4 March, the European Commission launched two public consultations on the revision of driving licence requirements and the cross-border enforcement of traffic rules in the EU. On conditions for obtaining a licence, the consultation covers driver training, probation periods, the introduction of digital driving licences and the mutual recognition of driving disqualifications. “We already have a common approach to training and examination requirements, but we also need to think about how to adapt this process to make it even more effective”, said Transport Commissioner Adina Vălean. The second consultation concerns mutual assistance and recognition procedures for cross-border investigations into road traffic offences and the cross-border enforcement of financial penalties.
