03/03/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 3 March the EU High Representative, Josep Borrell, denounced the censorship of Russian media and the repression of peaceful and anti-war demonstrations against the military invasion of Ukraine, which are intensifying in Russia. The day before, two of Russia’s leading media outlets, the Echo of Moscow and TV Rain, were banned, as were the websites of a number of independent media organisations. More than 7,600 anti-war protesters have been arrested in over 120 cities since the military invasion began. “The fact that a law is being drafted by the Russian State Duma that will allow for sentences of up to 15 years’ imprisonment for those who express opinions that deviate from the official government line is deeply concerning”, the High Representative added.
