03/03/2022 (Agence Europe) – In a letter sent to the President of the ECB, Christine Lagarde, on Wednesday 2 March, some 20 MEPs from the Renew Europe group in the European Parliament – including its former chair, Romanian Dacian Cioloș – urged the ECB to take all measures necessary to facilitate the convertibility of the Ukrainian hryvnia into the currencies of European Union countries, including the euro. They noted the difficulties that Ukrainian refugees fleeing Russia’s invasion of their country have in exchanging currency in the EU countries that are hosting them because of the restrictions adopted by the National Bank of Ukraine in late February. However, the National Bank of Poland has already established a ‘swap line’ agreement with its Ukrainian counterpart. (MB)
