14/12/2021 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission had annoyed MEPs by proposing in mid-October to allow a phased implementation of Regulation 2017/746 on in vitro diagnostic medical devices (see EUROPE 12821/9). On Tuesday 14 December, the European Parliament, meeting in plenary session, nevertheless decided not to oppose this proposal. In an agreement reached between the co-legislators and endorsed by the EU Council at the end of November, it was agreed that if the European Parliament adopted the proposal as formulated by the Commission, the Council would in turn endorse the Parliament's position so that the act could be formally adopted. The EU Council should therefore be asked to endorse the European Parliament’s ‘A’ point position at a future meeting. (AC)
