14/12/2021 (Agence Europe) – The European Parliament approved on Tuesday 14 December, by 604 votes to 25, with 68 abstentions, the agreement reached last week with the Council of the EU on the modalities of the European Year of Youth 2022 (see EUROPE 12848/3). The text is also expected to be approved shortly by the EU Council and can therefore be applied from 1 January. The MEP in charge of the dossier, Sabine Verheyen (EPP, Germany), insisted on Monday in Parliament’s plenary session that the initiative, less than a month before its launch, was largely unknown. She called on her colleagues to “take the message to every neighbourhood, every city, every region”. “The needs of the younger generation must be brought to everyone’s attention”, she added. (AC)
