Belgrade opens its accession negotiation chapters on Green Agenda and Sustainable Connectivity

Serbia opened, on Tuesday 14 December, the Green Agenda and Sustainable Connectivity cluster in its accession negotiations, at the thirteenth meeting of the Accession Conference with Serbia at Ministerial level.

This ‘cluster’ is composed of four chapters: Chapter 14 on transport policy, Chapter 15 on Energy, Chapter 21 on trans-European networks and Chapter 27 on environment and climate change. According to the Prime Minister, Ana Brnabić, this is certainly the “most important cluster” in the “eyes of her country”, which is of “paramount importance”. With this cluster, the country has opened 22 out of 35 negotiation chapters.

Serbia also wanted to open the cluster on competitiveness and inclusive growth. Ms Brnabić said she hoped as well that her country could quickly open the cluster on resources, agriculture and cohesion.

Slovenian State Secretary Gašper Dovžan emphasised that Serbia must make efforts regarding the independence of the judiciary, the fight against corruption and organised crime, media freedom and dealing with war crimes. He added that progress in terms of the Rule of law and the Dialogue with Kosovo were crucial to move forward on the European path.

Ms Brnabić promised that her country would continue reforms related to the Rule of law, public administration and the economy. (Original version in French by Camille-Cerise Gessant)
