13/12/2021 (Agence Europe) – The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced on Sunday 12 December an additional €30 million in support to Belarusian civil society. “Today we are stepping up our support, with an additional €30 million for youth, independent media, SMEs in exile and cultural actors”, she announced on Twitter after a meeting with opposition leader Svetlana Tikhanovskaya. Ms von der Leyen recalled that the EU stood by the Belarusians in their “fight for freedom and democracy”. This announcement will bring the total EU assistance to the people of Belarus since August 2020 to almost €65 million. (CG)
