Executive Vice-President for Competition Policy Margrethe Vestager was in Washington on 7 December to launch the Joint Policy Dialogue on Technology Competition. She met with the Chair of the US Federal Trade Commission, Lina Khan, and Jonathan Kanter, Assistant Attorney General of the US Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division.
This new framework should be used to share experiences and opinions in order to coordinate policy implementation as much as possible between the two parties. The relevant agencies will also be able to exchange information and know-how to ensure that the authorities are best equipped.
The joint dialogue includes high-level meetings as well as discussions between experts, focusing on the implementation of competition policies and problems in technology markets.
Thus, the EU and the US reaffirm “their mutual interest in cooperating on competition policy and enforcement overall and especially in technology sectors”, as stated in the joint communiqué. The three counterparts add: “We intend to collaborate to ensure and promote fair competition”.
This new framework for discussion is part of the collaborative momentum launched at the EU-US Summit last June and follows on from the Trade and Technology Council (TTC) (see EUROPE 12801/20).
