08/12/2021 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission announced on 8 December that some 150 metric tonnes of urgent medical aid will be delivered to Afghanistan this week on five flights of the EU humanitarian bridge, while a repatriation flight of EU citizens and Afghans took place last weekend. Medical supplies are provided by Action Against Hunger, Care International, Emergency, the German Red Cross, Medair, Première Urgence, Save the Children, UNICEF and the World Health Organization. The repatriation flight, operated by France and co-financed by the EU, allowed over 300 people - including French, Dutch and Afghans - to leave Afghanistan. In a statement the European Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Lenarčič, thanked “our humanitarian partners and France for our close cooperation which allows us to face this humanitarian emergency together”.
