21/10/2021 (Agence Europe) – The High Performance Computing Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC) inaugurated a new supercomputer (see EUROPE 12748/19) in Sofia on Thursday 21 October. Called ‘Discover’, this supercomputer - with its capacity of 4.5 billion calculations per second - will help develop research in the fields of health, energy and engineering. “With EuroHPC Discover, Bulgaria can be better integrated into pan-European innovation ecosystems”, said European Commissioner for Innovation, Mariya Gabriel. Discover is the third supercomputer inaugurated by EuroHPC this year. Four more are underway in Portugal, Finland, Italy and the Czech Republic. The joint undertaking was launched in September 2018. A new regulation adopted by the Council of the EU in July provides EuroHPC with a budget of €7 billion. (TM)
