After several postponements of the decision, the presidents and representatives of the European Parliament's political groups agreed on Wednesday 20 October, alongside the plenary session, on the sharing out between parliamentary committees of the files from the package to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 55% by 2030 compared to 1990.
The alternative proposal submitted by the S&D, EPP and Renew Europe groups (see EUROPE 12813/22) was approved by the Conference of Presidents. The EPP group are believed to have asked at the last minute for an update of the role of the Committee on Budgets (BUDG) in the sharing out of competences.
Several regretted that too many conflicts of competences between parliamentary committees were escalating to the level of the Conference of Presidents, whereas this is primarily a matter for the parliamentary Conference of Committee Chairs (CCC).
