20/10/2021 (Agence Europe) – The European Magazine Media Association (EMMA) and the European Newspaper Publishers Association (ENPA) called on co-legislators on Wednesday 20 October, on the eve of a European Council meeting, to be more ambitious in their work regarding fair and contestable markets in the digital sector (DMA) (see EUROPE 12814/9). In a joint statement, the two organisations said that no “ green light” should be given until the proposals have been “ considerably strengthened”. “However, the drafts unfortunately fall significantly short of these objectives”, said the two organisations in summary. “If Europe would now fail to get the future rules and obligations for gatekeepers right, Europe would forfeit a unique and historic opportunity and miss out on the digital decade”, they concluded.
