20/10/2021 (Agence Europe) – The European Parliament adopted on Wednesday 20 October, by 543 votes to 50 with 107 abstentions, a report highlighting the precariousness of artists’ working conditions in the EU and the urgent need to improve these conditions, which have largely deteriorated in the context of the health crisis. In particular, MEPs call on the Commission to propose a “European Status of the Artist”. They made this point in the Chamber on the eve of the vote, before the European Commissioner for Employment and Social Rights (see EUROPE 12815/4). In their report, the MEPs also call for the establishment of cross-border mobility programmes for young creators, for the respect of artistic freedom within the EU27 and for better protection of authors and performers against streaming platforms.
