17 EU Member States recognise Covid-19 as an occupational disease

28/09/2021 (Agence Europe)By June 2021, 17 Member States recognised coronavirus disease as an occupational disease, according to figures from Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Union, published on Tuesday 28 September. These are Bulgaria, Cyprus, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, France, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia and Sweden. Italy, Slovenia and Spain have classified the disease as an accident at work. For Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Germany and Finland, the disease can be classified either as an occupational disease or as an accident at work. The situation seems to be less clear in Greece and Ireland. There is, however, a downside, says Eurostat: the risk of contracting Covid-19 is recognised among Member States both for all sectors and for specific sectors and professions. (PH)
