22/09/2021 (Agence Europe) – German MEP Anna Deparnay-Grunenberg (Greens/EFA), together with several members of the German Green party Die Grünen, presented a project on Friday 17 September to boost night train services in Europe. In specific terms, the idea rests on four pillars: the expansion of routes, the establishment of a uniform booking platform, the reduction of marginal costs for night trains and the creation of a level playing field for competition between different modes of transport. “A trans-European network of night trains would present a real alternative to short and medium-haul flights. This would save CO2 emissions in the transport sector, which are currently still rising”, said Deparnay-Grunenberg in a statement on 22 September, also calling on the next German government to work together with the EU regarding this issue.
