22/09/2021 (Agence Europe) – The European External Action Service said on Wednesday 22 September that Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian had “given assurances of his willingness to resume negotiations (on the Iranian nuclear deal) in the near future” during his first meeting with High Representative of the Union Josep Borrell the day before in New York. For his part, Mr Borrell reiterated that it was of the utmost importance to quickly resume the talks, which were interrupted because of the presidential election in Iran. He also stressed the need for full cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to resolve outstanding issues and reiterated his concern about the overall trajectory of Iran’s nuclear programme. The two men also discussed bilateral relations between the EU and Iran and Afghanistan. (CG)
