22/09/2021 (Agence Europe) – During a meeting with members of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC) on Tuesday 21 September, EU High Representative Josep Borrell pleaded for the strengthening of relations between the two organisations. According to the European External Action Service, he acknowledged that the positive dynamics of a reinvigorated GCC, which contributes to de-escalating tensions in the region, and “offers opportunities for enhanced EU-GCC institutional engagement on strategic areas of mutual interest”. “Over 30 years since the signature of the EU-GCC agreement the EU is determined to explore further ways of cooperation with the GCC and its members, both on regional and global issues, including green and digital transition and post-Covid-19 recovery”, said Borrell. A Joint Council is expected to be held in 2022. (CG)
