26/08/2021 (Agence Europe) – European External Action Service spokesperson Peter Stano explained on Thursday, 26 August, that preserving parliamentary democracy in Tunisia, ensuring the country’s political stability, and exiting the economic crisis are priorities for the European Union and should be for Tunisia. Although the president of Tunisia announced on 23 August that the 25 July measures, including the Tunisian parliament’s suspension, have been extended until further notice, Mr Stano pointed out that the statement made by High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell on 27 July—which called for a speedy return to institutional stability—remained fully relevant (see EUROPE 12770/2). He announced that the High Representative would visit Tunisia in the coming weeks in order to discuss the situation with the relevant partners. (CG)
