26/08/2021 (Agence Europe) – As the 26th UN Conference of the Parties on Climate Change (COP26) fast approaches, Glasgow City Council - which will host the UN event - unanimously passed a motion on 20 August “to ensure that venues and community spaces either owned or operated by the Council are not used for the benefit of those commercial organisations who deny, ignore or wilfully contribute to catastrophic climate change, for the duration of COP26”. To this end, the City Council has set eligibility criteria for all organisations wishing to reserve these spaces. For example, large companies must have set scientific emission reduction targets, committed to setting such targets, or joined the UN’s ‘Race to Zero’ campaign. COP26 is scheduled to take place from 1 to 12 November. (DG)
