26/08/2021 (Agence Europe) – The European Space Agency (ESA) signed, on Thursday 26 August, a declaration of intent with NASA, the US space agency, on the sidelines of the Space Symposium in Colorado, in which the two agencies recognise their common interest in working together to address the “growing danger” posed by space debris to human activity in space (see EUROPE 12702/12). The statement foresees possible ESA participation in a NASA mission to measure debris in orbit. “Excellent!”, the director general of ESA, Josef Aschbacher, said via Twitter, for whom the issue of space debris is one of the “most pressing of this generation”.
