15/07/2021 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday, 13 July, the European Parliament’s Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) gave its green light to the draft regulation on health technology assessments (HTAs), as negotiated between MEPs and the Council of the EU (see EUROPE 12746/12). The committee members voted on the text as follows: 58 in favour with 14 against and 6 abstentions. The future regulation, which still needs to be approved by the plenary, will apply starting in 2024; it will provide a framework for the implementation of health technology assessments common to the 27 Member States (see EUROPE 11951/6). Within the next 10 years or so, a large part of the analysis aiming to monitor the properties and the long-term effects of medicines, devices, procedures, and medical treatments is thus expected to be conducted at the European level.
