15/07/2021 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday, 15 July, High Representative of the Union Josep Borrell denounced the latest “wide-scale” attack on independent voices that was carried out by the Belarusian regime the previous day, with numerous raids on private houses and offices and arrests. This is “another proof that the Lukashenko regime is waging a systematic and well-orchestrated campaign with the ultimate aim to silence all remaining dissident voices and suppress civic space in Belarus”, he reported. Mr Borrell has, once again, called for international commitments to be respected, for the more than 550 political prisoners to be released, for an end to the repression, and for accountability. The High Representative reiterated that the EU was prepared to consider further restrictive measures “in line with its gradual approach”. (CG)
