23/06/2021 (Agence Europe) – The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) adopted on Monday 21 June (70 votes in favour, 28 against, 12 abstentions) a resolution that was tabled by Mr Boriss Cilevičs, calling on the Spanish authorities to reform the criminal law provisions on rebellion and sedition in order to avoid, inter alia, any “disproportionate” punishment. The organisation notes misinterpretations, such as the development of the concept of “violence without violence”, according to which a demonstration with a large number of people is deemed a form of violence. The Assembly is also calling for the pardoning of Catalan politicians convicted for their involvement in the organisation of the 2017 referendum, and for an end to the extradition procedures of Catalan politicians who are living abroad and are wanted on the same grounds. This is significant support for Carles Puigdemont and Toni Comín, currently MEPs in the European Parliament. To consult the resolution: https://bit.ly/3zT4q1G (PH)
