23/06/2021 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 23 June, the Member States’ ambassadors to the EU approved the ‘crisis management’ concept for a possible EU non-executive military mission in Mozambique (see EUROPE 12729/18, 12714/6). The decision is expected to be endorsed at the Agriculture and Fisheries Council on 28-29 June. Member States will now start to make the decision operational, a source told EUROPE. The ambassadors also agreed on the force commander of this training mission, who will be Portuguese Brigadier General Nuno Lemos Pires. According to this European source, this mission will be the first to benefit from the European Peace Facility. The CSDP mission should be officially launched at the Foreign Affairs Council on 12 July. (CG)
