10/06/2021 (Agence Europe) – A group of ten NGOs sent a letter to the European Commission on Wednesday 9 June, calling on it to be more ambitious regarding the development by 2030 of renewable energy within the context of the revision of the EU Renewable Energy Directive (2018/2001) (RED II). “The EU 2030 renewable energy target also needs to increase in line with higher climate ambition, going far beyond the 40% indicated in the ‘EU 2030 Climate Target Plan’”, they wrote. They also called for the reintroduction of binding national targets to guide Member States in developing strong national measures, ensuring the opportunity for citizens and communities to engage in the energy transition. The proposed revision of RED II is expected to be presented on 14 July. See the letter: https://bit.ly/35808pi (DG)
