10/06/2021 (Agence Europe) – Environment Ministers from several EU Member States (France, Austria, Latvia and Italy) called on the European Commission to rapidly establish a European database to ensure the traceability of biofuels during a discussion on Thursday 10 June about biofuel fraud initiated by the Netherlands (see EUROPE 12736/12). Poland believes this database should also cover cases where the supply chain is located outside the EU in order to be effective. Responding to their request, the European Commission’s Executive Vice-President for the European Green Deal, Frans Timmermans, said: “The Union database is foreseen to be launched next year. It will improve the traceability of feedstock and fuels and thus mitigate the irregularities and frauds”. (DG)
