01/06/2021 (Agence Europe) – According to figures published by Eurostat on Tuesday 1 June, the number of single-person, childless households increased by 20% between 2010 and 2020. In 2020, there were 195.4 million households in the EU, of which almost one third (29%) had children living in them. According to Eurostat, around 14% percent of households with children (7.8 million households) were composed of lone parents. That is 4% of all households. However, the proportion of lone parents varied considerably from country to country. A proportion exceeding 20% of all households with children was recorded in six countries: Sweden (34%), Denmark (29%), Estonia (28%), Latvia and Lithuania (both 25%) and France (21%). The lowest rates were recorded in Croatia (5%), Romania (7%) and Finland (8%). (PH)
