During a high-level virtual meeting on Monday, 31 May, the EU and Jordan reconfirmed “their solid partnership and their strong cooperation on political, security, trade and cooperation matters”, announced the European External Action Service after the meeting.
“The two sides [...] confirmed their mutual commitment to continue to enhance their cooperation and bring about greater progress in all domains discussed”, specified the diplomatic service, adding that relations between the two partners were “excellent”.
During their videoconference, representatives from the EU and Jordan discussed a range of subjects in the areas of politics, security, trade, and cooperation.
In the context of implementing their 1997 Association Agreement and pursuing their Partnership Priorities adopted in 1996, they examined the progress made in Amman’s economic reforms and on socio-economic themes of joint work, such as Jordan’s green growth and climate actions, trade relations, and research and innovation.
In addition, Europeans and Jordanians discussed political reforms in Jordan and the human rights situation.
They also mentioned regional developments—such as the situation in Syria, Iraq, and the Middle East—and their impact on Jordan. (Original version in French by Camille-Cerise Gessant)
