12/05/2021 (Agence Europe) – The European Parliament’s Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality (FEMM) adopted, on Tuesday 11 May, the own-initiative report by Predrag Fred Matić (S&D, Croatia) on sexual and reproductive health and rights in the EU (see EUROPE 12715/19). The text, which reiterates the urgent need to remove the remaining barriers impeding access to these rights in the Member States, received broad support (27 votes in favour). Only one MEP from the EPP group abstained, two MEPs from the ECR group, three from the ID group and one other MEP from the EPP group voted against. The many amendments that had been tabled by these MEPs - some of whom were strongly opposed to abortion - were overwhelmingly rejected. (Original version in French by Agathe Cherki)
