The S&D group has tabled a series of proposals to ensure that the European Union will be able to meet its carbon neutrality target by 2050.
Specifically, the political group calls for a clear phase-out date for combustion engine cars, as well as concrete measures - taking into account the social dimension of each Member State - for the transition period.
In addition to facilitating a change in consumer behaviour towards multimodal mobility, the S&D would like to see a binding roadmap for the social, professional and regional consequences of the switch to sustainable mobility technologies.
The Social Democrats also want to see measures put in place to stimulate inland navigation as a sustainable mode of freight transport.
From a social point of view, the S&D calls for concrete measures in the aviation and maritime sectors, where it considers working conditions “disastrous”.
Emphasis has also been placed on consideration of the rural aspect in the development of a strategy for sustainable and intelligent mobility.
Finally, S&D calls for proper data sharing that respects European data protection principles in view of the development of future legislation in the field of smart mobility. (Original version in French by Thomas Mangin)
