04/05/2021 (Agence Europe) – On the initiative of EPP members François-Xavier Bellamy (France), Loukás Fourlás (Cyprus) and Andrey Kovachev (Bulgaria), on 3 May 121 MEPs called on the Presidents of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and of the European Council, Charles Michel, and on the High Representative of the Union, Josep Borrell, to demand the repatriation of all Armenian prisoners of war currently imprisoned in Azerbaijan. In a letter, they denounce Baku's failure to respect the ceasefire agreement with Yerevan, which stipulates that “the exchange of prisoners of war will be carried out”. The MEPs therefore call on the EU to use the levers at its disposal to demand that Azerbaijan comply with international law. “If Europe wants to assume its responsibility, it must ensure that this serious violation of international law on its doorstep does not become a tragic precedent”, they emphasised.
