19/04/2021 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission launched on 15 April a public consultation on measures to combat by-catch of sensitive species and to address negative impacts on sensitive habitats through technical measures such as area closures, gear changes and mitigation measures for sensitive species. The Commission will then present an action plan ‘to conserve fisheries resources and protect marine ecosystems’, as foreseen in the Biodiversity Strategy, presented on 20 May 2020, which aims, among other things, “to achieve good environmental status of marine ecosystems”.
