EU plans training mission to help Mozambican authorities fight terrorism

19/04/2021 (Agence Europe)On Monday 19 April, European foreign ministers had a brief exchange of views on the crisis in northern Mozambique, a region plagued by jihadist attacks, of which the recent attack in Palma, claimed by the Islamic State, is the latest illustration. The Portuguese Foreign Minister, Augusto Santos Silva, stressed that the conflict in Cabo Delgado province was one of the crises “that threaten stability and security in the world and in Europe” and spoke to the press about the “preparations for a training mission to support the efforts of the Mozambican authorities in their fight against terrorism”. Such a mission could strengthen the EU’s response to this crisis, which it has so far tried to alleviate by increasing its humanitarian aid (see EUROPE 12624/15). (AN)
