29/03/2021 (Agence Europe) – The European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) welcomed, on Thursday 25 March, the vote in the European Parliament’s Committee on Employment and Social Affairs (EMPL) on the fourth revision of the Carcinogens and Mutagens Directive (see EUROPE 12687/12). The unions welcomed in particular: - amendments extending the scope of the Directive to substances toxic to reproduction and the inclusion of Hazardous Medicinal Products in its Annex I; - the new methodology for setting more stringent occupational exposure limit values (OELs); - the request to the European Commission to present by the end of the year an action plan to add 25 additional OELs for carcinogens; - the request to propose solutions to better protect workers from exposure to “cocktails” of carcinogens.
