European Parliament launches its platform in fight against impunity

On Friday 26 March, in association with the Delegation for Relations with Belarus and the Delegation to the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly, the European Parliament Sub-committee on Human Rights (DROI) and the Committee on Foreign Affairs launched a platform to fight against impunity in Belarus.

This unique platform will allow regular updates to be made on the human rights situation in Belarus and will enable regional and international actors to work with Belarusian human rights organisations”, the European Parliament said in a statement.

The statement added that the aim of the platform, meetings for which will be held in camera, is to provide a meeting place for all relevant actors “to explore ways to provide operational and strategic support to Belarusian civil society organisations that are collecting evidence of human rights violations in Belarus”.

It is important to be able to collect all this information (...) in order to be able to bring cases into Court, if necessary, so that impunity does not reign in this country. The perpetrators of violence and crimes must be punished”, said Maria Arena (S&D, Belgium), the chair of the European Parliament Sub-Committee on Human Rights.
