Australian Mathias Cormann elected Secretary General over Sweden’s Cecilia Malmström

12/03/2021 (Agence Europe) – Former Australian Finance Minister Mathias Cormann was elected Secretary General of the OECD on Friday 12 March by the organisation’s 37 member countries. He narrowly edged out Sweden’s Cecilia Malmström, former EU Trade Commissioner. The election was immediately criticised by the environmental NGO Greenpeace, which denounced Mr Cormann’s political action in favour of fossil fuel production and against Australia’s greenhouse gas emissions trading...
