12/03/2021 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission merely recalled the procedure for group purchases of Covid-19 vaccines on Friday 12 March, after Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz criticised an unfair redistribution of vaccine doses between Member States. “The central element is the population distribution key. A Member State may call for all or fewer doses to which it is entitled. A new distribution key for the remaining doses is established as a result of these discussions. After that, it is up to the Member States to order the vaccines directly from the producers”, said a spokesperson. According to Mr Kurz, Malta is expected to complete its vaccination campaign in May, while Bulgaria will only do so in the autumn. Despite delays in vaccine deliveries, the goal remains to vaccinate 70% of the adult population by the end of the summer, according to the Commission. (MB)
