12/03/2021 (Agence Europe) – Improved infrastructure, especially public transport, is one of the most pressing needs for rural areas, as is access to basic services and amenities (such as water, electricity, banks and post offices). According to a European Commission press release published on Friday 12 March, these are the main outcomes of the public consultation on the long-term vision for rural areas (see EUROPE 12676/10). A total of 2,326 respondents from all EU Member States participated in this public consultation. According to respondents to the consultation, the attractiveness of rural areas will also largely depend on the availability of digital connectivity. The consultation’s findings will be presented during the Rural Vision Week, organised by the European Network for Rural Development (ENRD) from 22 to 26 March 2021.
